Fairy tales are stories either created or strongly influenced by oral traditions. Their plots feature stark conflicts between good and evil, with magic and luck determining the usually happy endings. While each culture and geographic region of the world has its own body of folk tales and fairy tales that it considers "its own," certain themes and motifs tend to be repeated across many cultures and time periods. Universal human emotions such as love, hate, courage, kindness, and cruelty appear in bold, broad strokes on the canvas of fairy tales.

The ancient & continued annals of the Cingalese race have been preserved for upwards of twenty-three centuries, & describe the erection or formation of all those extensive works, cities, tanks, temples,-whose ruins & numerous inscriptions remain to verify the historical records. Guides From the Greeks

There are guides hammered out through trial & error, vote & veto, consensus & discord. They derive from generations of rational discussion & argumentation by wise men-& ultimately from the traditional approval of the citizenry.

Punishment is a deterrent so that the criminal may not strike again. It is “punishment for the sake of prevention”, so that the “evil-doer may suffer & learn.” To the Greeks, a society that cannot punish but only forgive & rationalize is as culpable, as amoral as the criminal himself.
